September Caterpillars
September Caterpillars is an old story idea that I began writing in college. It started as my attempt to better understand drug addiction- the conflicting experiences of chemical bliss and physical torment, the ravenous need to consume something so equally beautiful and poisonous, the all encompassing evil power of a thing so small. But over time, it expanded. It explores grief, hope, societal pressure, the impossibility of reconciliation between the rich and the poor, and the rising need for individual decision making.
I am currently re-plotting the novel, and working to establish its narrative structure. As with Their Eyes Were Full of Light, it is important to me that the narrative structure inform the meaning of the story.
I've got lots of delicious work ahead
